Jeremy Pilmore-BedfordJeremy Pilmore-Bedford took up his appointment in Atlanta as Her Majesty’s Consul General in August 2013. He leads a team which works throughout the Southeast to promote UK-US trade and investment, support British nationals, conduct public diplomacy on key issues, and build scientific co-operation. He also sits on the Marshall Scholarship selection committee.
Jeremy’s previous posting was in London where he was the Head of the UK Foreign Office’s Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico Department. In this role he helped to re-invigorate UK relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, pushed for greater trade links, and supported joint efforts to combat drugs and crime within the region. Prior to this Jeremy worked in the Foreign Office’s policy planning staff, and before that worked on supporting democratic reform in Ukraine after the 2004 Orange Revolution.
Jeremy joined the UK’s diplomatic service in 1990 as a graduate entrant. He has served overseas in Qatar, Singapore, Russia, and Malaysia. Jeremy was born in Sevenoaks in Kent, England. He graduated in politics, history, and economics from Brunel University in London. During his time there he participated in a one-year exchange programme with the State University of New York and worked as an intern for a US Congressman.
Jeremy is accompanied on his posting by his wife Amanda, a counsellor, and his two teenage children, Olivia and Alasdair.
Mary Shelton RoseAn Advisory partner based in Charlotte, NC, Mary is the leader of the PwC US Brexit Response office. In this role, Mary leads a team of professionals focused on leading US-based Brexit activities and monitoring related developments. In addition to leading the Brexit Response office, Mary also serves as the PwC East Region Advisory leader.
Mary has more than 26 years of experience providing business advisory and investigatory services to clients in the entertainment, media, communications, and technology industries. Over the course of her career, she has led or participated in consulting engagements involving entertainment content analysis and deployment, profitability analyses, industry/market research, financial modeling and forecasting, statistical analyses, valuations, licensing management and royalty examinations, litigation support, and transactional due diligence and structuring.
As a recognized thought leader and industry expert on entertainment and media, Mary has been invited as a guest speaker for industry forums, including the Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit and the Digital Entertainment Group Annual Forum.
Mary holds a B.S. and a Masters in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a licensed CPA in California and North Carolina.
Ambassador Charles ShapiroAmbassador Charles Shapiro is president of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta and a senior lecturer at the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. From 2011-2013 Shapiro was the president of the Institute of the Americas, a think tank at the University of California San Diego. Previously, he held numerous senior positions at the U.S. Department of State, including Ambassador to Venezuela, principal deputy assistant secretary for the Western Hemisphere, and Coordinator for Cuban Affairs.
At the World Affairs Council he has organized and led five trips to Cuba, including with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. Shapiro’s op-eds have been published most recently the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the Latin America Advisor, the Huffington Post, the Miami Herald, the San Diego Union Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.
Shapiro earned a B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.Ed. from Georgia State University.
President Bush awarded Shapiro a presidential Meritorious Service Award in 2004, the Chilean Foreign Ministry made him a knight commander in the Orden al MÃ©rito de Chile in 2005, and Secretary of State Clinton awarded him The Secretary’s Career Achievement Award in 2011. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Agnes Scott College.
Lynn ClarkeLynn Clarke is an independent board director and CEO with packaged goods, technology, e-commerce retail, social media and digital expertise. She has driven growth and has significant operating experience in these varied industries. Lynn serves as a board member of three privately held consumer and retail companies. She owns and runs MetroKitchen.com, a leading direct to consumer global e-commerce business, awarded 2013-14 E-commerce Retailer of the Year from the International Housewares Association. After 17 years of branding and operating experience at PepsiCo and General Mills, Lynn moved to CEO of two private equity-owned companies, then bought her own company. Her focus is to grow profitable businesses via brand building by deeply understanding consumer and customer needs and meeting them better than competitors.
